The Baljee's Shimla

Famous poetess, Dr. Mrs. Hetty Prim wrote:
The pastries served at 'Blajee's'
will haunt you in you dreams
because they are so wonderful.
All chocolaty and cream
on many a breakfast table.
There sits a loaf of bread,
it's Blajee's bread all soft and nice.
It clears each sleepy head.

A renowned bakery hotspot of Shimla is the famous Baljee's restaurant. Located on the Mall, Baljee's introduced bakery items as special features in their hotels and restaurant when they started around half a century back. Due to the popularity of the bakery items, in 1981 Baljees established a separate bakery unit. Baljees boast of entertaining both and hoi-polloi gentry. Amongst its elite customers is also one time Himachal Pradesh University student, now President of Afghanistan, Mr. Hamid Karzai.

Ms. Renu Baljees owner, tells us that Baljee's offers only "regular stuff" but the high quality of their products makes all these items "special". By the end of the day the Baljee's display counters are almost always empty. "Baljees does not compromise on quality" she says.
